Niall Horan Teaches You Irish Slang

What are some must-know Irish slang words ?

Niall Horan tests his knowledge of Irish slang. From “bajanxed” to “bogger”, Niall takes us through some of Ireland’s best slang phrases.
Hey if I’m to be fair this is Irish
slang and I’m not Harlan I’m looking
forward to seeing some of this sham is a
word that you would use in a greeting
it’s like wood or tile or whatever you
got all right sham number two band jacks.
I guess the real definition would be
broken down like if the kara was before
Kara was pulled over on the side of the
road and it’s tire was hanging off you’d
say that Kara’s banjaxed or ban Jack’s
could mean when you’re absolutely
obliterated drunk and you bang.
You were absolutely banjaxed last night
that kind of thing gummi.
Gammy kind of means a little bit
messed up gammy is word I would use a
lot so that’s my gummy knee.
I have toes that are all a bit weird and
I call them my gammy toes bogger I am a
bogger if you’re from Dublin you think
that Dublin is the only place that
exists in Ireland when you tourists go
to Ireland they tend to just stick to
Dublin oh my god I love Temple Bar I go
there for a Guinness even though it cost
$11 11 pounds euros even for a pint
again is there’s two words for people
from outside of Dublin that live in the
country and they’re called Cochise God
knows and bugger so you live in your
mental live in bog land flute. Flute is
the Irish word for p-e-n-i-s
and you are firmly wrong because it
means penis you’re welcome
hip just two ways to sit hip or hape
depending on where you’re from and
Ireland if I was it sudden outside the
pub went in to check if there was many
people in there and I come back out and
I’d say yeah there’s a hey four people
in there just mean loads or some country
every boyo. Boyo kind of like you know
when you see the English people they go
lads lads lads like through all that
we’re our version of that the boyos COD
it’s basically to kind of like tell
someone a light you’d say something
sarcastic they’d go really think I’m on
a coordinate and that’s how you would
use it. I’m only messing with you my
cotton you the lawyer that unexcited a
ha ha ha.
Delira and Excira it’s basically Dublin phrase that they
would say where it means delighted and
excited Deloitte and excited definitely
innocent Sounders as good as their
lawyer de-annex oh you’re a donkey’s
years this is a good one one of my
favourite Americanism says oh my god I
haven’t seen you in like a minute
it’s been a minute we would say Jesus
been dunked these years it’s been
donkey’s years since I seen you and I
don’t know what that means I guess dump
users told and they’ve been around for a
long time dosser another word for that
we the other word we would use is mas’r
the DA sir just some kind of someone
that can add us it’s like listen really
do much works a bit of a lazy person
Ajay’s there’s a two ways to say this
EEGIT and just replace the G with the J
with a G and it’s eegit it basically
means your food you’re an idiot I get
that about yeah that’s a word
that’s a common Irish word said in most
sentences, Jacks is another word
for the restroom Jackeen is like
the buggers version of what we would
call Dublin people from Dublin we would
call them jackings so we’re buggers and
cold cheese and to us they’re called
jackings Joel maxi simply means taxi how
she cuttin how’s she cuttin means like
how’s our things it’s kind of like it
comes from farmers cuttin their fields
alpha that basically means oul wan
oul wan my mother I mean how do I get trees this
s-u-c-k-i-n diesel and glad you took out the
G soaked in diesel is kind of like now
you have like if you’re struggling with
something and then you get it and then
someone would say oh now you’re s-u-c-k-i-n
diesel okay.
So we would say that I would say thick
which means angry so if someone was
getting angry at me I’d say well you
getting thick or if they didn’t take it
if they took your job or mine too
serious but I don’t get take about it to
throw shapes the verb to throw chairs
kind of chests out kind of looking for a
fight kind of stick in your chest I
would throw in all sorts of Conor
McGregor all shapes love like that we
would use this also looking for a fight
and also when you run the dance floor
look at him he’s pulling some serious
shapes on the floor.
Effin and blindin which basically is
kind of like a lot of swearing and he
was effing and blinding and he was they
were saying this and saying that and he
was basically admittedly means the
effing is another word for obviously so
he’s gonna blame them complain and he
was doing a lot of swearing person
person is worried word the word we will
use for swearing and that was
interesting I actually didn’t realize
well I had a feeling how ridiculous we
were well haven’t read them and seen
them in ball capitals I know now
that were absolutely insane so this
has been Irish slang with me Nilo Horan.
These were latest irish slang terms also very common in reddit community.
